When you think of the standard quilling paper techniques, making cones is probably not one of the first things that comes to mind.

At least it’s that way for me. I’m absolutely turning and shaping coils, teardrops, and marquise way more often.

But quilling paper cones are a valuable skill to master because they can add some quick texture and a unique shape to your creations. And these quilling paper bluebells are the perfect way to practice making loads of cones.

And that’s why, this week, I’m sharing a video all about making quilling paper bluebells!

Click here to watch my Quilling Paper Blue Bell video on YouTube!

To be successful with the cone, you should use a slotted quilling tool.

The way the slotted tool grips the end of the paper is super important as you need to hold your quilling paper strip at an angle to get the perfect cone.

I’m a big fan of the Savvy Slotted quilling tool from Quilled Creations for this project. The easy spinning handle can give a lot of relief to aching wrists after a long day of quilling. Plus, the fine tip grabs quilling paper without leaving a large crimp on the end.

If you’re totally unfamiliar with making cones from quilling paper, you can watch this video with all the basics you’ll need to know!

Once you’ve got the steps down for cones, you’re ready to go!

They really only take a few seconds for the size needed for these flowers.

I also share how to make a quick stem and some leaves in the video to make these blossoms truly lifelike.

Feel free to experiment with different shades of purple and blue quilling paper!

I have a few favorites though, like Orchid from Quilled Creations or Craft Harbor’s Light Blue. You can even play around with graduated colors like this Dark Centered Lilac for a two-toned cone.

You can use your quilling paper bluebells on their own or in a beautiful summer flowerscape.

They add some lovely height as a contrast to these pansies. And I think the lavender color pairs well with the yellow of the sunflowers, too!

Of course, the ideas don’t stop there. These flowers have such a unique look they will surely be the perfect compliment to any quilling project you create!

I hope you enjoy my quilling bluebell video!

I love your tutorials. One that you posted on you tube the 24th of March, 2024, was a white flower with yellow center. I want to use it but lost it now. I have searched everything you have posted but they stop a week or so before the 24th, (which is my birthday, lol). Could you please send me how to find the tutorial again? Thank you in advance if you can help me.
